What we collect, what we don't, and how to reach us about it.

Hot Flasher is a free, ad-free menopause resource. There are no accounts to create and nothing to buy. We do not sell your information, we do not run advertising trackers, and we do not build profiles of the people who visit. We keep anonymous traffic counts so we know which guides and episodes are useful, and we only hold your email address if you choose to hand it to us.

We use PostHog to count visits and see which pages get read. It records page views, the page you came from, any campaign tags in the link you clicked, and a handful of on-site actions such as pressing play on an episode, clicking a subscribe link, sharing a page, or clicking an outbound partner link. PostHog is configured so that visitors are not identified: we do not attach names, email addresses, or accounts to this data, and we do not attempt to work out who an individual visitor is. It is stored on PostHog's US infrastructure.
Our newsletter runs on Substack. When you enter your email address in a signup box on this site, that address is submitted directly to Substack and is handled under Substack's privacy policy. We use it to send the newsletter and nothing else. Every issue has an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
If you use the Share Your Story form, we receive the story you wrote, your email address, and your name if you chose to give one. It is delivered to our inbox by email through Resend and stays there. We use it to read your story, to reply to you, and to ask your permission before featuring it. Stories are kept anonymous unless you tell us otherwise, and we will not publish your email address. If you would like your submission deleted, email us and we will remove it.
Episode audio in our podcast feed is served through OP3, an open podcast analytics service, so that we can count downloads. Like all podcast hosting, this means your app's request reaches a server that sees your IP address, your app or browser type, and an approximate location. OP3 publishes what it collects and how it handles it at op3.dev/privacy. We see only aggregate counts.
The site is hosted on Vercel and audio files are stored on Cloudflare R2. Both keep standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and reliability. That is ordinary infrastructure logging, not something we query to track individuals.
PostHog sets a cookie or similar local storage value so that repeat page views in one session are not counted as separate visitors. We do not use advertising or retargeting cookies. Pages that embed a video use YouTube's privacy-enhanced player (youtube-nocookie.com), which does not set viewing cookies unless you start playing the video. If you follow a link from Hot Flasher to another site, that site's own policy takes over.
Some guides link to clinics, telehealth services, or products. Where a link is a paid or commissioned relationship, it is disclosed on the page where it appears. We count clicks on those links in the anonymous analytics described above. We are not paid to give a particular recommendation, and a partner never gets to influence what our content says.
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter from any issue. You can block analytics cookies in your browser or use a tracker blocker, and the site will work normally. You can email hello@hotflasher.com to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted, and we will respond within 30 days.
California residents have rights under the CCPA and CPRA, including the right to know, delete, and correct personal information, and the right to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as those laws define it, so there is nothing to opt out of, and we will not treat you differently for exercising any of these rights. If you are in the UK or the EEA, you have equivalent rights under the UK GDPR and GDPR. Use the same email address for any of these requests.
Hot Flasher is written for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means the updated policy applies. See also our Terms of Service.
